How we check rates

Every rupee figure on BillDecoded comes from a published order and one calculation engine, and is checked before it goes live.

Only primary sources

Rates come from the regulator's tariff and subsidy orders and from government orders. We never take a rate from another calculator, a news report or a social media post. When a news report tells us something changed, we find the order before we change anything.

A person checks every slab

A state goes live only when every slab, free unit and charge has been checked against the order by a person. Anything the calculator leaves out is said beside the figure.

One engine, tested

Every rupee figure on the site, in the calculators and in the text, is worked out by one calculation engine. Before any change goes live, the engine must reproduce bills we have worked out by hand from the orders' rates; if one fails, the change does not publish and the site keeps the old figures.

What the calculators include

Energy charges at the rates households pay, free units, slab limits and fixed charges. They cannot know arrears, adjustments or late-payment penalties on your account, so a real bill can differ by those amounts.

How often we re-check

We check each regulator's list of orders every month, and the day a new order is published. Each page shows the date of the last check. Tamil Nadu was last checked on 22 Oct 2026.
